The Interior Design Legislative Coalition of Pennsylvania (IDLCPA) is a not-for-profit organization committed to advancing the interior design profession through licensing and regulation. Established in the late 1980s, the statewide coalition has been working with legislators, lobbyists, and other design trades with the ultimate goal of the licensing and regulation of interior designers in the state of Pennsylvania.
IDLCPA has over 850 members consisting of interior design professionals, students, educators, industry partners, and affiliated professionals. The board has 24 appointed members serving from locations across Pennsylvania.
Interior designers are trained, learned professionals who are able to evaluate and design interior spaces which consider the safety and well-being of the individuals that inhabit them. They are specialists trained to evaluate interior spaces and conditions while collaborating with other design trades such as architects, contractors, and engineers.
Within the commercial field, interior designers design a plethora of interior spaces, including hospitals, corporate offices, multifamily-housing, and hotels. Each of these types of spaces have their own programmatic needs and spatial differences, presenting unique difficulties and challenges that interior designs must evaluate and consider on a daily basis.
This is an urgent message regarding the introduction of the Interior Design Registration Bill in the Pennsylvania Senate. The formation of the Senate bill was a collaborative effort between IDLCPA, IIDA PA/NJ/DE Chapter, ASID PA West and ASID PA East. Together in a continuing untied effort, IDLCPA, IIDA and ASID are conducting a strategic “rapid response” planto reach out to all interior design professionals, students and those who support them and this bill to strengthen the campaign and to simultaneously advance thi sbill and the interior design profession across Pennsylvania.
